Enhancing Water Supply Resilience in a Tropical Island via a Socio-Hydrological Approach: A Case Study in Con Dao Island, Vietnam

Socio-hydrological approaches are gaining momentum due to the importance of understanding dynamics and co-evolution water human systems. Various socio-hydrological have been developed improve adaptive capacity local people deal with water-related issues. In this study, a social-hydrological approach was enhance supply resilience in Con Dao Island, Vietnam. We used water-balance model, involving Water Evaluation Planning (WEAP) tool, conduct scenario-based evaluation demands. doing so, we assessed impacts socio-economic development, such as population growth climate change, on increasing demand. The modelling results showed that existing reservoirs—the main sources recharge groundwater (accounting for 56.92% 2018 65.59% 2030)—play critical role enhancing island, particularly during dry season. addition, future shortages can be solved by investment infrastructures combination use alternative sources, rainwater desalinated seawater. findings further indicate while actors high awareness natural resources, they seem neglect change. To meet demands, argue upgrading constructing new reservoirs, mobilizing resources freshwater alternatives investing facilities among most suitable roadmaps island. strengthening capacity, raising building professional both officials strongly recommended. research concludes roadmap envisages integration social address complex interaction human–water system foster water-supply study area.
